Camp "Can" Do Information
Camp "Can" Do, a 10-year dream came true for South Carolina
firefighters and ACBC in the summer of 1997 at the beautiful oceanfront Camp St.
Christopher on Seabrook Island just south of Charleston. Camp "Can" Do
is a specially designed camp for children who have been treated for serious burn
injuries. Shining through all the work that made this dream a reality was the spirit of
ACBC and everything that makes it unique; individuals coming together in a
tribute to teamwork; hours of volunteering; reaching out to others in the
community to pitch in with help; enthusiasm; all in all a collective passion for
helping kids and supporting the emotional healing that's so critical to their
well-benign growth. In the end, Camp "Can" Do was all about
encouraging a child's natural passion for fun. "Burned Children have more pain and suffering in their lives than we can
ever imagine." said Capt. Robert O'Donald, the volunteer director of Camp
"Can" Do and active ACBC supporter from the Charleston Fire
Department. "This gave the kids the opportunity to experience and fun of
summer camp. The most rewarding part was watching them realize that they
"Can" do anything." Camp "Can" Do is co-sponsored by
the Medical University of South Carolina, MUSC, Children's Hospital Burn
Services and South Carolina firefighters' who support the special needs of
burned children. Camp "Can" Do's goal is to give the children a fun, unforgettable
summer camp experience and help them realize that they "Can Do"
anything. Who can attend Camp "Can" Do? Any child who lives in South Carolina that has been treated for a serious
burn injury between the ages of 6-17. Who staff's the camp? Camp "Can" Do is a labor of love for a diverse group of loyal,

expertise to this worthwhile project. From the firefighters' who collect raise
money and volunteer for camp, the medical staff who take care of the children
during their recovery, Camp St. Christopher's staff, to our "very special
friends" who share the children's experience of being a burn survivor. What does Camp "Can" Do offer? Camp "Can" Do offers a variety of fun filled activities, such as
canoeing, boating, fishing; entertainment, magic shows, cultural exhibitions,
visits from local fire departments and emergency service agencies, arts and
crafts, swimming, boat rides, fishing, a karaoke dance party, firefighter relay
games and much more. Why a camp for burned children? Camp "Can" Do gives burned children a chance to bond and with other
